Sons of Italy offer scholarship
The local chapter of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America is inviting applications for the Elena Buonpane Memorial Scholarship to assist students with an Italian heritage or students interested in Italian culture to further their education.
One $750 scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic school year is awarded this year. Residents of Clallam and Jefferson counties are eligible to apply.
Criteria for eligibility are Italian heritage; residency in Clallam or Jefferson County; and evidence and name of college or technical school student is enrolled at or applying to.
Funds may be used for books or tuition and will be sent to the school of the student’s enrollment upon notification.
Applications are available at local high schools, the Peninsula College counseling office or by calling Don Zanon at 452-8677.
‘Promise’ scholarships available
High school graduates from comprehensive and alternative high schools in the Sequim, Port Angeles, Quillayute Valley, Cape Flattery and Crescent school districts may qualify for scholarships through the Clallam Promise Scholarship program.
The award covers $900 per quarter for tuition and fees that are not covered by other state and/or federal grants and up to $200 toward textbooks at the Peninsula College bookstore. The Clallam Promise Scholarship award only can be used at Peninsula College.
The application priority deadline is April 30. Applications that are received after that date will be considered based on available funding.

Hospital guild scholarships available
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild offers scholarships to students majoring in a subject or program in the medical field.
To be eligible for a 2009-2010 guild scholarship, applicants must be a Clallam County resident who has been accepted at a four-year college or medical school as a full-time student and entering at least their junior year of college.
