College hosts
Running Start meeting
High school students who are considering participating in the Running Start program at Peninsula College have a chance to learn more about it in an informational meeting Feb. 24 in the Pirate Union building on the Peninsula College campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The meeting starts with an optional campus tour at 6:30 p.m. A presentation and panel discussion by Running Start students and college faculty starts at 7 p.m. in the Pirate Union Building conference room. The presentation is followed by a question-and-answer session.
Topics include the challenges for co-enrolled students (high school and college), strategies for success, how college is different from high school, and what parents and families can do to be supportive.

Choir boosters
meet tonight
The Sequim High School Choir Boosters meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Feb. 18, at the school district boardroom in the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
All parents are invited to come and participate.
Meeting topics include future fundraisers: a jewelry party and a catalog gift sale, with proceeds going to purchase some of the wish list items for the school’s new swing choir.

Five Acre school hosts barn dance fundraiser
"Beat the Blues Barn Dance," the 2009 Five Acre School fundraiser, is scheduled for 6-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Cedarfield Barn on Kitchen-Dick Road.
Music includes Deadwood Revival and the Black Diamond Fiddlers Club.
The event includes live and silent auctions and a raffle.
No-host vendors include: Alder Wood Bistro, Bella Italia and Blue Flame BBQ. A selection of local beer and wine is available.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $9 for youths 5-15 and free for youths 5 or younger.
Proceeds go to the Five Acre School scholarships and equipment fund.

Pilch earns WSU degree
Mary Eleanor Pilch of
Sequim earned a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) degree in foreign languages and cultures at Washington State University at the conclusion of the fall 2008 semester.
Cum laude honors go to students with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50-3.70.
Exchange program
seeks host families
The ASSE international student exchange program is seeking host families for boys and girls from a variety of countries across the globe. Students are 15-18 years old. They are a set of academically select students and speak English.
All ASSE students are fully insured and bring their own personal spending money, according to programs officials.
Families may select the youth of their choice. Families are encouraged to correspond with students prior to their arrival.
