Berdine earns
bachelor’s degree
Jacob Berdine of Sequim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science (with pre-law option) from Dickinson State University in May.
Berdine graduated from Sequim High School in 2005 and transferred to Dickinson State University from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.
Dickinson State University is located in Dickinson, N.D., with a student population of about 16,000.
Final band concert set
The Sequim High School bands host their end-of-the-year concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, in the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
The concert is free to the public; however, donations are gladly accepted.
Selections are performed by all five groups of the band program.
Senior recognition and awards are scheduled. There is also an end-of-the-year slide show prior to the start of the concert and during intermission.

Rynearson named
to EOU honor roll
Paul Rynearson of
Sequim was named to Eastern Oregon University’s dean’s list for the 2009 winter quarter. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher with at least 12 hours of coursework.
High school swing choir goes country
The Sequim High School Swing Choir hosts "A Night of Country," a dinner theater event directed by Stephanie Clark, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5 at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.
Tickets for music and a barbecue dinner are $10.

The North Olympic Hot Wheelers is awarding two $500 scholarships to high school graduates who are entering a health care field and/or are challenged by a disability.

Sather earns master’s degree at OSU
Nichole K. Sather of
Sequim receives a Master of Science degree in fisheries science from Oregon State University in June.
Sather works at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Battelle) in Sequim.
Oregon State hosts its 140th commencement ceremony on June 13 in Corvallis, Ore.
Block Fest
comes to Sequim
Block Fest, a "block" building extravaganza for parents and children 8 months to 8 years of age, is coming to Sequim Community School (220 W. Alder St.) on June 20.
The event is scheduled for two sessions – 10 a.m. for the younger children and 11:30 a.m. for the older children, in the school’s commons area.
Participants are encouraged to bring young children to play and learn with little blocks, big blocks, and very big blocks, square blocks and round blocks, wooden blocks, foam blocks, cardboard blocks and more. The activities improve children’s math, science and literacy skills.
Call in advance to reserve a sport. Only 40 children are allowed at each session.
The event is free.

OPA puts on
‘Beauty is a Beast’
The Olympic Peninsula Academy’s production of "Beauty is a Beast" – not to be confused with Sequim High’s recent "Beauty and the Best" – is scheduled for three shows this weekend.
The "inspirational" comedy shows at 7 p.m. on June 5, and 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on June 6.
All shows are at the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
Admission is by donation.
The play, written by D. M. Bocaz-Larson, details what happens when Beauty, who is described as "ugly" on the inside, is turned inside out by a fairy godfather.
