Youth fishing day set
Kids Fishing Day in the Park is set for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, at the Sequim Reclamation Pond in Carrie Blake Park.
The event is for youths 14 years and younger; fishing is free and licenses are not required. Rods, reels, bait, fish cleaning and ice will be provided.
The day is sponsored by Puget Sound Anglers, North Olympic Peninsula Chapter, in conjunction with the city of Sequim.
Froese named to DePaul dean’s list
Ruth Froese of Sequim was named to the DePaul University dean’s list for the 2009-2010 winter quarter.
To earn dean’s list status, DePaul students must be full time and maintain a grade-point average of 3.50 or better.
Located in Chicago, Ill., DePaul is the largest Catholic university in the country.
Grinnell, McClain shine at WWU
Nicholas Grinnell and Jaymes McClain of Sequim were named to Western Washington University’s president’s list for winter quarter 2010.
Students qualify for Western’s president’s list by achieving a grade-point average in the top 10 percent of their class.
Grinnell and McClain are 2009 graduates of Sequim High School.
State patrol hosts ‘career camp’
Applications are being accepted for the 33rd-annual Washington State Patrol-Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Career Camp, July 11-17 at the state patrol academy in Shelton.
The camp gives selected high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in law enforcement an opportunity to explore job opportunities in the field. It offers exposure to problems encountered by law enforcement officers on a daily basis and shows how to handle these situations in a professional manner.
Applications are on the state patrol Web site (www.wsp.gov) via the "Outreach" link. The application deadline is May 14.
Special IEP workshop set
Snap, a nonprofit organization working with families with loved ones with developmental disabilities, presents a workshop about Individualized Educational Plans from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.
The plans are part of a child’s educational plan for up to 15 years. The workshop focuses on participants’ questions about their child’s IEP, how to make sure needs are addressed and understanding the rules about IEPs. Attorney Kim Ortloff is the guest presenter.
The workshop is free to parents. Lunch and materials are provided.
