Applebee’s ‘Dine’ helps Parenting Matters group
The June 19 "Dine to Donate" fundraiser at the Sequim Applebee’s (130 River Road) helps the Parenting Matters Foundation.
With a coupon, 15 percent of one’s bill – minus tax, alcohol and gratuity charges – between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. that Saturday goes to the First Teacher and Parenting Matters group.

Applications available for continuing education scholarships
Soroptimist International of Sequim is accepting applications for three continuing education scholarships.
Applicants must be female graduates of
Sequim High School or have a legal address within the Sequim School District.
They also need to have completed one year of college or equivalent and plan to be enrolled in school for the fall of 2010.
Applications for these $1,000 scholarships are available online at www.sisequim.com and also may be picked up at Sequim Village Glass in Carlsborg or at McHugh Realtors in Sequim.
Completed applications must be postmarked by July 15.
Twiss gets invitation for Carnegie event
Hallie Twiss, a senior at Sequim High School, has been invited to apply for the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Twiss received the nomination after being selected to play at the Washington State Solo & Ensemble contest in Ellensburg in late April.
The Honors Performance Series brings together skilled high school instrumentalists and singers from throughout the nation and Canada for a special performance Feb. 19, 2011. Participants are selected by performance résumé and recording. See www.masterperformance.org.
SHS flag team meeting set
The Sequim High School Flag Team has an informational meeting for middle and high school students from 3-3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in the high school cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave. The flag team performs with the high school band at events in Disneyland, Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia.

Grange awards 3 scholarships
Sequim Prairie Grange No. 1108 awarded three scholarships to local students for the 2010-2011 school year.
They are:
_ Maranda Wilson of Sequim. Wilson, a senior at Sequim High School, plans to attend Peninsula College to study nursing or psychology. Grange member Betty Brooks is Wilson’s grandmother.
_ Tyler Grimsley of Port Angeles. Grimsley is continuing his education at Eastern Washington University where he is pursuing an engineering degree. Grange member Richard Grimsley is his Tyler’s grandfather.
_ Amanda Schmidt of Othello. Schmidt, a senior at Othello High School, plans to attend Columbia Basin College to major in veterinary technology. Schmidt’s great-grandmother Esther Heuhslein Nelson, is a Grange member.
School aims to prep students for 21st century
A free video and lecture presentation about The Possibility Institute, a new, multi-age "Alternative Green Democratic Education Center," is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9 at Five Acre School, 515 Lotzgesell Road.
The education center is available for students in grades 7 and up.
Teachers, parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Gautney gets Northwest degree
Andrew Michael Guatney, a 2004 graduate of Sequim High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in youth ministry from Northwest University.
Gautney plans to attend Peninsula College in the fall to complete a bachelor’s degree in business management.
Anderson receives Concordia scholarship
Turi Anderson, a Sequim High School senior, recently received an Excellence Scholarship from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
The scholarship is worth a total of $48,000, or $12,000 for each of Anderson’s four years at Concordia.
Anderson is the daughter of the Rev. Jack and Karin Anderson of Sequim.
