‘Express’ joins SHS jazz band for dinner
The Olympic Express Big Band and the Sequim High School Band join together for a family-friendly evening of music and dining from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, in the high school cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Dinner includes spaghetti and pizza, green salad and breadsticks.
Proceeds benefit the SHS Band Scholarship Fund that helps this year’s graduating seniors pay for college.
Tickets are available in advance at the high school main office (601 N. Sequim Ave.) or at the door the night of the event. Tickets are $15 per couple; $25 per family (two adults and two children); $8 per adult; $5 per youth (ages 4-15); children 3 & younger are free.
The Sequim High School Band Boosters are sponsoring the event.

Choir boosters
meet next week
The Sequim High School choir boosters host their next board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, in the choir room at the Sequim Community School’s auxiliary building, 220 W. Alder St.
All choir parents are invited to attend.
Discussion includes future concerts, scholarships and the next car wash fundraiser. Talk also includes results of the Solo and Ensemble state competition from late April.

Steenberg elected to
Pacific honor society
Summer Steenberg, a 2007 graduate of Sequim High School and freshman at Pacific University, is one of 48 Pacific students inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society on April 19.
The students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement in the first semester of their college careers.
Online public school
offers info meeting
Officials from Insight School of Washington, an online, tuition-free public high school, host an information session from 10 a.m.-noon on May 30 at the Red Lion Hotel (221 N. Lincoln St.) in Port Angeles.
Students and parents are invited to come learn about how online education works and how to enroll.
Local students enrolled at Insight are scheduled to be on hand and talk about their experiences.

State patrol camp
slated for July
The 31st Annual Washington State Patrol-Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Career Camp is scheduled for July 25-31 at the state patrol academy in Shelton.
The state patrol and other police departments provide officers as staff members to instruct and serve as counselors. This gives the students a variety of experiences and exposure to federal, state, county and local law enforcement as a possible career path.

Head Start
accepting applications
Sequim Head Start programs are recruiting eligible children and families for the 2009-2010 school year.
Head Start is a federally funded program serving families with children up to age 5.
Three programs are available: a part-day, part-year preschool; a full-day, full-year preschool; and Early Head Start, a year-round program for pregnant women and/or children ages 0-3.
Full-day, full-year Head Start and Early Head Start program options are available in Port Angeles,
Sequim and Port Hadlock.
Programs provide meals, education and social and health services to eligible children. Parent involvement is encouraged.

Physicians’ scholarships, grants up for grabs
Caretakers of the Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund are accepting applications for both academic scholarships in medically-related fields and medically-related community grants, both to be awarded in 2009.
To be eligible, a student must be a graduate of a Clallam County high school and have been accepted into (or currently be enrolled in and making satisfactory progress in) a fully-accredited, professional school in a medically-related program.
The community grants encourage one-time, medically-related community projects that benefit a broad cross-section of the community.
Applications for both scholarships and grants may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: The Clallam County Physicians Community Benefit fund, P.O. Box 3005, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Completed applications are due by June 1.
The benefit fund was formed in 1995 when Regence BlueShield joined with Clallam County Physicians Service, Inc., a company formed by local physicians to provide health coverage to local citizens.
Academy touts online Christian school
St. Mark’s Academy, a new, online Christian school for middle and high school students, opens this fall.
