Science Café speaker to talk climate change, sustainability

Sequim City Councilor Jennifer States presents “Climate Change and Sustainability Efforts by the City of Sequim and Clallam County” at the next Sequim Science Café, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.

States is the Washington Maritime Blue Project Manager for DNV GL and has been leading communications, stakeholder engagement and strategy implementation efforts for the Washington Department of Commerce. Her current focus areas include sustainable maritime innovation and ferry electrification as well as renewables, storage and microgrids. She is also co-owner of Wind Rose Cellars, a winery operated by her husband in Sequim.

The City of Sequim is working with the County on the Dungeness off-channel reservoir as a key investment in climate change adaptation. Learn more about the City of Sequim and Clallam County efforts on recycling, food waste reduction, cooperation on local efforts including renewable energy, storage, electronic vehicle (EV) charging and the county’s climate change dialogues that will stretch into July.

Other topics States will touch on include a Washington Maritime Blue initiative that involves projects to electrify Washington State Ferries, collaborations with PNNL/Battelle, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, ports and others as part of a maritime sustainability and competitiveness effort.
