Consider the celebration on.

Two meals on Saturday, Oct. 27, kicked off a yearlong celebration for Sequim leading to the city’s 100th anniversary in October 2013. Sequim Prairie Grange hosted just over 360 people for its all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.

Attendees could see the unveiling of the locally painted milk cans project and participate in the centennial tile project. Both will make appearances at other upcoming centennial events.

The Centennial Kick-off Dinner at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Center brought in 100 civic leaders, community members and newcomers.

Joel and Linda Ogden recently moved to Sequim from Arizona and found out about the event just that day. Linda said she grew up in Washington and often visited the Olympic Peninsula and felt it was a good opportunity to meet the community.

Dick and Gayle Larson said they attended the dinner because they wanted to be a part of the important event.

“The community means a lot to us,” Gayle said.

The Sequim Centennial’s next events include an exhibit of old photographs and artists’ interpretations at the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley and a Geocaching Geocoin challenge on Nov. 17 in Pioneer Park.
