Sequim Irrigation Fest to showcase 121 years SLIDESHOW-FIRST WEEKEND

Building on a 121-year-old tradition, the Sequim Irrigation Festival’s Grand Finale Weekend will commence Thursday, May 12, and continue through the weekend.

Building on a 121-year-old tradition, the Sequim Irrigation Festival’s Grand Finale Weekend will commence Thursday, May 12, and continue through the weekend.

Consistent with this year’s theme of “Looking to the Future Through the Past” the Grand Finale begins with a historical walking tour of Sequim’s downtown, followed by the carnival and operetta.

By Friday and Saturday, the festival is in full swing with events ranging from a strongman contest, golf tournament, fun run, car show, logging show and tractor pull to the Grand Parade.

This year’s Grand Parade is full with 120 entries and honors Grand Marshal Jim Stoffer, Grand Pioneer Mayme Faulk, Grand Pioneer William Blank, Honorary Pioneer Jo Robb and Honorary Pioneer Milton Lynch. Just before the parade, festival goers can enjoy a lineup of classic cars and motorcycles as they cruise down Washington Street.

“As of Tuesday morning they have 67 entries with more coming in hourly,” said Randy Perry, organizer of the Hot Rods & Harleys Show n’ Cruz and Car Show.

The 28th annual Logging Show is sure to entertain with scheduled competitions, including chainsaw carving, axe throwing, pole falling and hand bucking, among others.

The Truck and Tractor Pull coincide with the logging show, as well as the annual Strongman Competition where international competitors participate in axle lift, arm over arm truck pull, log press, tire flip, stone stack, dead lift and car lift.
