Sequim man dies in single-car wreck

A Sequim resident has died after his vehicle went over an embankment Monday on Lost Mountain Road, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said Darrell Piatt was traveling north at about 4:35 p.m. on the 200 block of the road south of Sequim and failed to negotiate a curve.

Piatt’s 1995 Chevrolet Camaro crossed the centerline, drove through bushes and across a driveway before the vehicle went airborne, colliding with trees, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded and found Piatt partially ejected from the vehicle.

Deputies attempted CPR, but Clallam County Fire District 3 medics determined that Piatt had died.

Investigators determined Piatt was not wearing a seat belt.

The exact causes of both the wreck and Piatt’s death are under investigation.
