Sequim man gets year-long prison term for sex with minor

Nikolas Sanchez, 21, of Sequim, was sentenced to a prison term of 12 months and one day for Rape of a Child in the Third Degree.

In addition to the prison sentence, the Department of Corrections will monitor Sanchez for 36 months and he will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

According to court documents, Sanchez picked up the 14-year-old victim and a 16-year-old girl from the Sequim Skate Park and took them to a home in Carlsborg. There, Sanchez provided the two girls with alcohol before having sex with them.

Sanchez admitted to Deputy Mark Millet of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office that he had sex with both girls, the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Sanchez has one juvenile felony conviction for residential burglary. A gross misdemeanor charge of Furnishing Liquor to Minors was dismissed pursuant to a plea agreement.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Steve Johnson said that Sanchez was facing a standard range of 12 months and one day to 14 months on the felony charge. Johnson said that the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office did not file any charges related to Sanchez’s sexual encounter with the 16-year-old because 16 is the legal age of consent in Washington and there was insufficient evidence that she was unable to consent.
