Sequim Police Department warns of new phone scam

The Sequim Police Department has in recent weeks taken several calls in recent week from citizens receiving scam/robo calls reportedly from Apple.

Victims are reporting receiving phone calls every 10 to 15 minutes, and blocking the caller has resulted in more phone calls from a different phone number, police officials said this week.

“Some victims are reporting requests for money and threatening to send a collector and a warrant for their arrest,” police officials noted.

The Sequim Police Department advised that those receiving the calls should hang up and report the call to the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1) and/or the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov/default.aspx).

The Sequim Police Department can only investigate a phone scam if a victim suffers a loss, department officials said this week.
