The Sequim School District will offer all-day kindergarten this fall, following news that funding was confirmed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for both Helen Haller Elementary School and Greywolf Elementary School.

The district is finalizing preparations over the summer to be ready for up to 180 kindergarten students for the 2015-2016 school year, up from 84 kindergartners in 2014-2015.

The district has five kindergarten classrooms and expected the growth in enrollment to require 10 kindergarten classrooms, five at each elementary school.

The district also has new kindergarten teachers.

In order to be eligible for kindergarten in September, children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31. Find an enrollment packet on the district’s website at www.sequim.k12.wa.us by clicking on “Our District” and then “Enrollment-Registration Information.”

Registration may be completed over the summer at the district office, 503 N. Sequim Ave. The district office is open from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday-Friday throughout the summer break.

Required immunization information and a Kindergarten Transportation Form also are available at this site. See school webpages for more registration information needed and the district website for upcoming events.

District officials remind parents/guardians that Free & Reduced Price Lunch applications, volunteer forms, Intent to Home School forms and Choice Requests must be renewed annually. The office at Helen Haller Elementary

School re-opens Aug. 18 and Greywolf Elementary School’s office re-opens Aug. 19.

Helen Haller (350 W. Fir St.) and Greywolf (171 Carlsborg Road) schools host an open house event at each building from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 31. The event provides school families with an opportunity to visit their school building and meet teachers.

Look for the Kids Today publication, a back-to-school annual guide for parents, to arrive in the mail at the end of August. This guide includes bus schedules, meal programs, class supply lists, a calendar of events and more.

The Back to School Fair is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 29, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., for resources and activities geared toward preparing families for the school year.

The first day of the 2015-2016 school year for grades 1-12 is Sept. 1. Kindergarten conferences are held on Sept. 1-3 (your child’s school will contact you regarding the date and time for kindergarten conferences).

The first day of kindergarten is Sept. 4.
