Sequim schools receive energy grant

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction awarded the Sequim School District a $425,000 grant to fund approximately half of the cost of replacing the heating system at Helen Haller Elementary School.

The project, once completed, replaces early 1970s-era heating equipment installed at Helen Haller with state-of-the-art heat pumps.

The project is expected to result in significant electrical cost savings over the life of the equipment, district officials said last week.

The grant application process began in December 2009 and involved district staff, board members and other community members.
