For Sequim students, it’s full steam ahead … literally.

The Sequim Education Foundation hosts its newest day of exploration with STEAM Power Saturday, set for 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 4 at Helen Haller Elementary School, 350 W. Fir St.

The event is for elementary students and their families who want to imagine, plan, create and improve upon their designs for solving challenges in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

All Sequim School District elementary school students and family members are invited.

The event features hands-on learning opportunities is taught by teachers.

Activities for students in grades K-2 include: Watercraft, Indoor Slingshot, Four-Wheel Balloon Cars, Hovercraft, String Puppet, Robo Wheel and Soft Landing.

Activities for students in grades 3-5 include: Marshmallow Blaster, Launch It, Air Cannon, Paper Table, Coding for Kids and Kinetic Sculpture.

Registration is $2 per person. Space is limited to 300 students. Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. at the Helen Haller Elementary gymnasium/cafeteria; the first activity begins at 10 a.m. Each activity lasts 30 minutes.

The June 4 event also includes a “STEAM Fair” with a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) professionals, organization representatives and scientists from the community to supplement the foundation’s efforts to promote career paths.

The event is funded by a community member donation to the Sequim Education Foundation, Soroptimists International of Sequim and Sequim Sunrise Rotary.

Forms are available online at each of the elementary schools’ websites, with classroom teachers or with school science specialists.
