Sequim woman wins holiday basket worth $1,275

Melvina Worman is the winner of a holiday gift certificate basket put together by 20 Sequim merchants. All the gift certificates combined totaled $1,275.

An avid card maker, Worman placed her lucky entry while shopping at Doodlebugs during the entry period of Nov. 28-30. The drawing was held Dec. 1 in time for her and her family to complete their holiday shopping.

"This is wonderful … a really wonderful surprise," Worman said upon receiving the basket. "It’s such a blessing to win. I thank all the merchants and hope to bless others with the gift certificates."

The drawing will become an annual event to encourage shopping locally and bring awareness to the uniqueness of Sequim businesses. Next year, the drawing will expand to include even more businesses, said Vickie Maples, executive director of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Participating businesses this year included A-1 Auto Parts, A Catered Affair, Blue Whole Gallery, Cedarbrook Garden Café, Cedarbrook Lavender & Herb Farm, Cedarbrook Seaview Vacation Rental, Cole’s Jewelers, Doodlebugs, Dove’s Nest, Dungeness Bay Wine & Cheese, Extravaganza, Let’s Shop: West Coast Connections, Mad Maggi, Over the Fence, Pacific Mist Books, Peninsula Paint Company, Pizza Factory, Pondicherri, Purple Haze Lavender and Sequim Beauty Salon.
