A Sequim man was treated at Olympic Medical Center Monday night following a wreck on U.S. Highway 101, while another was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault.
Washington State Patrol reports that at 9:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, Owen Cline, 27, of Sequim was traveling westbound in a 2002 GMC Sierra with a trailer on the highway near the River Road overpass when he was allegedly struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Kenneth Krom, 48, of Sequim.
Krom was traveling west with passenger Dillon Cummings, 33, also of Sequim, and after striking the trailer, came to rest in the westbound ditch and Cline in the eastbound ditch.
Battalion Chief Stef Anderson with Clallam County Fire District 3 reports that Cummings was taken to OMC and then flown to Harborview Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries related to his arm.
A representative with Harborview reports Cummings was in satisfactory condition on Tuesday morning.
Krom was not injured but was transported to Olympic Medical Center as a precaution due to the situation, Anderson said.
Krom was arrested for DUI and vehicular assault and booked into Clallam County jail at 2:27 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Cline was uninjured and all three were wearing seatbelts, State Patrol reports.
The Camaro and trailer were reported totaled and the truck had reportable damage.
Anderson said there were no fires on scene, but firefighters disconnected a battery in the Camaro as it was smoking.
The truck and trailer nearly spun 360 degrees into oncoming eastbound traffic, Anderson said, and the trailer flipped over its top and broke off from the truck.
There was concrete in the trailer and firefighters hosed it off the highway, she said.
According to Trooper Katherine Weatherwax, the highway was blocked for approximately three hours during the incident investigation and cleanup.
