A Port Angeles man was treated for an accidental gunshot wound Sunday evening, Oct. 25, after his partner’s hunting rifle discharged while being emptied.

No evidence of foul play was discovered during the investigation and no charges are being filed, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at 5:30 p.m. Sunday to a man with a gunshot wound to the leg in the 700 block of Louella Road.

Thomas Hull, 46, and Joseph Sotomayor, 45, both of Port Angeles, told the deputy they were hunting in an area off Palo Alto Road.

The two had finished for the day and were unloading their rifles when Sotomayor’s 30-06 rifle was discharged.

The bullet traveled through a portion of the passenger seat, center console and driver’s seat of Hull’s pickup before fragmenting.

Pieces of the bullet entered Hull’s leg and caused nonlife-threatening injuries.

Hull and Sotomayor drove until they had cell phone service and called 9-1-1.

Hull was taken to Olympic Medical Center where he was treated and released.
