Sequim city staff will remove signs from public rights of way to improve motorist safety over the next months.

Staff report numerous complaints about sandwich boards and other temporary signs placed in roundabout medians and other intersections. Signs located near intersections surrounded by crosswalks or where crosswalks could be striped will be subject to removal.

The signs will be taken to the City Shop, 169 W. Hemlock St., and can be picked up there. For information, call City of Sequim Planning and Public Works Departments at 683-4809.

Sign ordinance

City staff are collecting feedback from the community on a revised draft of the sign ordinance.

If adopted, the ordinance would restrict temporary portable sign locations, the number and size of signs allowed and in some cases, hours of display. Sequim’s current ordinances prohibit any permanent or temporary portable signs which block or interfere with pedestrian or vehicle traffic or which are on public right of way.
