Sequim’s Sound Community Bank at 645 W. Washington St. reopened on Dec. 23 after flooding led bank officials to close the branch on the morning of Dec. 20.
It was the second flooding incident at the bank in December.
Shelli Robb-Kahler, the bank’s hub manager/vice-president, said staff discovered rainwater got into the building’s electrical system causing the temporary closure on Dec. 20 including its ATM. Flooding on Dec. 7 did not close the branch entirely, as staff operated the branch through its drive-thru.
“We have restored temporary power to the branch and we are totally full service, less client restrooms,” Robb-Kahler said on Dec. 30.
“You will see (a lot of) work beginning soon with installation of new sewage discharge lines, etc.”
CEO Laurie Stewart said Sequim’s branch is the largest in Sound Community Bank’s network with almost 5,000 households and several of those holding multiple accounts.
Staff said customer records and safe deposit boxes were unaffected by the flooding incidents.
Stewart said the basement for the 1980 building has always had issues with water and a sump pump was installed to counter them.
During the closure, some staffers worked at the Port Angeles branch while other took vacation days, Robb-Kahler said.
Calls to the Sequim branch were diverted to Port Angeles’ branch, and staff continued an overnight deposit drop, too.
