Maris Larsen, a City of Sequim Police detective, was promoted to police sergeant effective April 1, police department officials announced last week.

Larsen began her career in law enforcement in 1997 when she served as a reserve police officer in Sedro Woolley. She later moved to Sequim and joined the Sequim Police Department in 2000, also as a reserve officer.

Larsen was hired by the department in 2006 and served as public information officer, emergency management coordinator and volunteer coordinator.

She was hired as a commissioned police officer in 2011 and attended the Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy in Burien.

She has performed the duties of patrol officer, crisis negotiator, forensic child interviewer, digital evidence forensic examiner, and detective.

“Maris has worked in several different assignments for the Sequim Police Department over the 24 years she has been with us,” Sequim Police Chief Mike Hill said in a press release.

“This gives her a great deal of expertise in certain areas and a wide breadth of knowledge about policing in general. These attributes along with Maris’s organizational skills and attention to detail have made her well-prepared for the position of Sergeant for the Sequim Police Department.”
