The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade tradition started in 1924 in New York. Since then, several Macy’s stores across the nation host their own “holiday” parades, such as Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit.
This year’s parade in Seattle featured more than 50 holiday-themed floats or attractions, about 500 costumed characters and 18 school marching bands and cheer squads, according to the Seattle Times.
