Foodies rejoice as one of Sequim’s growing traditions, Sequim Noon Rotary’s 47th annual Salmon Bake & BBQ, convenes this Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.

Event coordinator Vicky Blakesly said organizers anticipate more than 900 meals of Alaskan salmon and local pulled pork being served from noon-4 p.m.

“Over the last 47 years, it’s been such a good community event where you can eat a great meal, sit under tents and enjoy the live music,” she said. “It’s also our largest fundraising event.”

Blakesly, who leads the event for a second year, said 80 percent of participants choose the wild keta salmon which is grilled over an alder wood fire but organizers also developed a special Sequim sauce last year for the pork.

All adult meals include baked beans, coleslaw, a roll, an ice cream cup and drink for $16 pre-sale or $18 at the event.

Children 12 and under can receive a hot dog and drink for $5.

Tickets are available from Noon Rotary Club members, from a special display at QFC this Friday-Sunday, Sequim Farmers Market, a few local merchants like Thomas Building Supply, Professional Real Estate, Beal Carpets, Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center and at the event.

New this year, organizers added a wine and beer garden from 7 Cedars, and they continue to offer nonprofit vendor booths inside.

Latin swing band Porto Alegre plays outside from noon-2:15 p.m. and Dukes of Dabob, a Dixieland jazz and swing band, from 2:30-5 p.m. Blakesly said music will be broadcast inside, too.

Raffles will be available along with exhibits, too.

“Vicky and her helpers have done a wonderful job planning an afternoon of fun with good food, live music, exciting raffles and interesting exhibits,” said Sequim Noon Rotary president Joe Irvin.

All proceeds from the event benefit Sequim children, local charities and Sequim Rotary projects such as high school scholarships, the fourth-grade dictionary project and sponsorship of the Sequim Boys & Girls Club.
