Middle school students support Operation Uplift
For the fifth year Sequim Middle School staff and students contributed to the Olympic Peninsula cancer support organization, Operation Uplift. The nonprofit began in 1983 as a breast cancer support group, but has since expanded to gather funds to support those impacted by all types of cancer.
To help with Operation Uplift’s cause, students at Sequim Middle School wore pink T-shirts at school Friday, Oct. 24. The students purchased Sequim Middle School dyed-pink shirts for $5 each, and through their donations raised $460.
All money will be donated to Operation Uplift and will “help offset the cost for care in Seattle for both men and women living on the Olympic Peninsula with cancer,” Melody Schneider, Associated Student Body (ASB) secretary said.
Mike Miko, a teacher at Sequim Middle School, is a man of his word, too. Miko promised his students that if a certain percent of his students either donated or participated in the “wear pink day” he would then dye his hair and beard pink.
