Third health care reform forum slated

The League of Women Voters of Clallam County holds the third in a series of free forums on the need for broad health care reform from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the Little Theatre on the campus of Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. Olympic Medical Center co-sponsors.

The August forum contrasts current roles of government and market in the provision of health care in America. Aaron Katz, principal lecturer in health services and global health at the School of Public Health, University of Washington, will discuss health care from the public policy point of view. Roger Stark, M.D., health care policy analyst at the Washington Policy Center, a Washington state-based think tank, will discuss health care from the point of view of markets.

A panel discussion featuring questions from the audience will follow the presentations.

The forums emphasize the imperative to reduce unsustainable health care costs and how the complex nature of the U.S.’s financing and delivery systems make reform challenging. The final forum in October discusses essential changes needed and options for broad reform.
