Timberwolves get a fresh coat

Sequim Middle School’s new band director and seventh grade choir teacher, George Rodes, hopes to give band and choir students something to be proud of.

Rodes arranged to have a mural painted outside the band and choir room by Port Angeles Tattoo co-owner and mural artist Jimbo Cutler and his girlfriend and mural assistant Haley Henning.

“The whole idea behind this (the mural) was I wanted to do something new and cool for the kids,” Rodes said.

“It’s something for them and letting them know you care.”

The mural features the Timberwolves insignia with lettering that reads “Sequim Timberwolves band and choir” backed by a ridge line of the Olympic mountains in Sequim with a bright and colorful sunset reflecting over a body of water.

While the mural is still being finished, Cutler said it should be complete by the start of school on Sept. 5. Cutler also painted a mural in the Greywolf Elementary School computer lab, as well as in other businesses in Sequim and Port Angeles.
