The Clallam Transit System entered into an agreement with the Puget Sound Regional Council earlier this year to accept and issue Regional Reduced Fare Permits (RRFPs) to disabled and elderly Clallam County residents.

This means Clallam County seniors or persons with disabilities can ride for less when they use public transportation services to travel around Puget Sound. The permit is an ID card that entitles eligible persons to pay discounted fares on 13 transportation systems throughout the Puget Sound region, including the Washington State ferry system.

The process to certify Clallam County residents and transit customers will start soon but this will be a phased process and the program will not be totally implemented until Jan. 1, 2014.

This means any senior or disabled person who wants to be eligible to pay a reduced cash fare or to buy a reduced fare monthly bus pass for fixed-route and dial-a-ride services will need to have an RRFP ID card when boarding a bus or purchasing a pass.

Effective Oct. 1, all Clallam Transit System disabled and senior passengers will be required to have an RRFP to be eligible to purchase a reduced monthly bus pass for fixed-route and dial-a-ride services. All pass outlets will require presentation of an RRFP ID card for proof of eligibility.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, disabled and senior passengers will be required to have an RRFP to be eligible to pay a reduced cash fare when boarding Clallam Transit fixed-route and dial-a-ride buses.

Cost for the I.D. card is a one-time, $3 fee. Clallam Transit has not yet set a price for a replacement RRFP but the cost will not exceed $3.
