Trash and recycling to change

Sequim residents soon will have the option of curbside yard waste disposal and a smaller trash can under a new contract with DM Disposal Co., Inc. approved at the Oct. 26 city council meeting. Possible changes in fees were not discussed at the meeting.

The separate recycling containers will be replaced by a single container but glass only will be accepted for recycling at two central locations.

In 2002, the city contracted with Waste Management of Washington Inc. for garbage collection service within the Sequim city limits.

DM Disposal Co., Inc. took over that contract, which included recycling, on Dec. 31, 2007.

City Attorney Craig Ritchie said the contract with DM Disposal, which is Murrey Disposal in the county, has seven years left.

The proposed contract adds three years so the company can amortize the new equipment for the new services, he said.
