The Sequim Lavender Festival had a good showing but not good enough to make it into the top 10 in the Best Flower Festival contest hosted by USA Today.
The lavender festival was not in the top 10 after results were announced Friday, April 1.
The festival was in 12th place the day before the contest ended, said Mary Jendrucko, executive director for the Sequim Lavender Growers Association.
“I would have liked to have been in the top 10,” she said. “We work really hard to produce a nice event for the valley. Twelfth’s still good.”
Jendrucko said the contest concerned only the growers association portion of the July Sequim Lavender Weekend, which also includes events organized by the Sequim Lavender Farmers Association.
The winner of the flower festival contest was Tulip Time in Holland, Mich.
Two other North Olympic Peninsula events still were in the running in the online 10 Best Readers’ Choice contests: The Port Angeles Underground tour in the Best Underground Attraction contest and Port Townsend in the Best Coastal Small Town contest.
While the Best Underground Attraction contest is closed and will be announced this week, voting remains open for the Best Coastal Small Town contest: see http://tinyurl.com/PDN-seatown.
Top choices are featured in a USA Today travel section story.
While USA Today doesn’t make numerical results public, it displays the current rankings. Users can vote in each category once every 24 hours.
