Two-day ‘critical incident’ course coming to Olympic Peninsula

A two-day training course to helps citizens survive “violent critical incidents” is coming to the Olympic Peninsula in March.

Olympic Medical Center and the ALICE Training Institute are teaming up to bring ALICE Instructor Certification Training on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 14-15, to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez St., Port Angeles.

This two-day instructor course teaches “proactive response option survival strategies for violent critical incidents ensuring a trauma-informed approach to civilian active threat response training,” organizers say.

The goal of the ALICE program is “to empower individuals to participate in their own survival in the gap between when a violent situation begins and when law enforcement arrives.”

ALICE Training, organizers say, is a valuable course for everyone, including: law enforcement; schools; universities; hospitals; businesses, and places of worship.

Those who complete the ALICE Instructor Certification course prepares them them to take those strategies back to their organization and community. Additionally, registrants will gain access to exclusive ALICE resources and ongoing support.

ALICE is aligned with recommendations from the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Education, Federal Bureau of Investigation and several state government agencies.
