United Way of Clallam County joins statewide fundraiser

Time to go “All In” for COVID-19 relief efforts.

Looking to help an effort to get immediate, critical and emergency support for workers and families most affected by the 2019 novel coronavirus across Washington state, United Way of Clallam County has joined All In WA.

Highlighted by a fundraising concert set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, All In WA is a coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic formed by a state coalition of companies, philanthropic leaders, community foundations, United Way organizations, community leaders, frontline nonprofits, individuals and public officials.

The virtual benefit concert, called “All In WA: A Concert for COVID Relief by Presenting Sponsor Amazon,” is hosted on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/amazonmusic), through www.allinWA.org and aired on stations across the state. The virtual concert will feature performances by Pearl Jam, Macklemore, Brandi Carlile, Ciara, Russell Wilson, The Black Tones, Dave Matthews, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Pete Carroll, Mary Lambert, Joel McHale, Ben Gibbard and Allen Stone. A full lineup is scheduled to be announced at a later date.

Amie Batton, United Way of Clallam County campaign chair, said the need for relief locally is key, noting the county’s 19 percent unemployment figure.

“With your generosity, paired with home grown talent, together we can raise funds, awareness and continue to help people in our community live safe, healthy, and productive lives,” Batton said last week.

“The generosity and compassion of Washingtonians and Clallam County is incredible. Your donations go directly to those in need of housing assistance, small businesses, families and children, and essential workers.”

The Event includes a $25 million contribution in funds to match new donations, dollar for dollar, up to $1 million per unique donor.

Created to assist local nonprofits with their immediate need to respond to this crisis, United Way’s COVID-19 Fund started with $100,000 from the Clallam Community Foundation and has grown to more than $240,200, with donations from local businesses, residents and foundations in the greater Seattle area.

“In just six weeks, we have mobilized this fund and awarded 17 grants for our region,” United Way 2020 board president Sara Dutrow said.

“Through a long history of family and individual partnerships, we are able to oversee McCool Early Leaning Grants, Hull and Munro Family Scholarships, funding for youth and the elderly through the Mangan Fund and assistance to women fleeing domestic violence from the Owen’s Fund,” said Tyler Johnson, foundation committee chair and board vice president.

United Way of Clallam County also manages the grant process for the Albert Haller Foundation that provides $250,000 to more than 50 nonprofits each year. The foundation’s whose focus is on food and basic needs for those in the region.

“While our impact reached many in 2019, the year ahead is shaping up to be another opportunity for our community to ban together and help those who are under-served in Clallam County,” Johnson said. “It’s time to do what our community does best — rally for each other.
