This is United Way of Clallam County’s 62nd year in Clallam County. This year, many United Way volunteers are working hard to raise $1 million to invest in the community. As of Oct. 31, $200,000 (20 percent) has been received.

United Way reaches out to the community in many different ways, in workplace campaigns, by letter and, beginning Nov. 7, a mailing with an invitation to make a donation will be delivered to all residents and businesses in Clallam County.

“This mailing is intended to reach people who may not give through a workplace, who are new to the community or are retired,” according to Jody Moss, executive director of United Way. “It is not a request for a second gift.”

Last year, Moss said, local community members donated $881,418. She calls United Way the “single best investment one can make to improve life for so many in our county.”

Josh Fox, president of the United Way board of directors, notes that, “United Way is a locally run organization, supporting 24 local partner agencies year-round and providing a strong safety net for children, adults, seniors and families in our community. United Way agencies and Community Solutions Initiatives, including Great Beginnings, Literacy, Access to Healthcare, and the

2-1-1 help line, work together to help many individuals and families lead safer and healthier lives. Last year more than 90,000 people benefited from services provided by United Way and our agencies, engaging 5,187 volunteers who gave 205,000 hours of service valued over $4.2 million.”

“We hope community members who have not yet sent in their donations will remember to do so,” said Lisa Meyer, assistant vice president and US Bank Port Angeles branch manager and chairman of this year’s campaign. “This year we are asking our donors: What matters to you? Wherever your interests lie, if it supports the community, it matters to us, too.”

There are many options for giving to United Way: payroll deduction, check, credit card, PayPal, direct billing, IRA distribution or stock transfer. All donations are tax deductible.
