The Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County will review emergency homeless shelters available on the North Olympic Peninsula and identify unmet shelter needs, when they meet Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The group meets from 10-11:30 a.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

“Overnight shelter has been in the news lately, but that is just one type of shelter,” said Network coordinator Martha Ireland.

“We also have clean-and-sober residential shelters, family shelters, seasonal shelters and shelters for specific populations, such as veterans or people fleeing domestic violence.

“Our goal is to get people from homelessness to permanently housed,” Ireland said. “We will be looking at how the shelter part of the system is working and what is needed to make it work better.”

Also on the agenda are updates on services and housing, and plans for the regional forum on “What we’re doing to end homelessness together,” to be held Nov. 18 at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Center in Blyn. OlyCAP client services manager Marki Lockhart will announce the start-up of the seasonal LIHEAP program to help low-income people pay heating costs.

The Shelter Providers Network coordinates homelessness response services and efforts to prevent and end homelessness in Clallam County.

Everyone who is interested in ending homelessness in Clallam County is welcome.
