The mortgage for the Shipley Center, formerly the Sequim Senior Activity Center, turns to ash after Michael Smith, executive director, lights it on fire in front of a crowd, including past and present board members, such as Bob Anundson, on left, and Joe Borden, on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The center at 921 E. Hammond St. raised enough funds to pay off its loan for a 2002 expansion.
Now volunteers are looking toward their long-term $10.4 million goal for a new center, which they are about $200,000 into so far.
