UPDATE: Homicide suspect in custody

NEWS UPDATE:

A man suspected in a Sunday morning homicide on Heuhslein Road is in custody.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict said Patrick Drum was apprehended by law enforcement after a half-day manhunt on Gellor Road, about four miles south of U.S. Highway 101 off Blue Mountain Road.

Benedict said Drum was hiding in a shed in the woods when a resident saw him and notified the law enforcement agents who were closing in on the suspect. He was taken into custody without incident, Benedict said.

Sheriff’s deputies escorted Drum, wearing Carhart pants, boots and a white tank top, to a Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

Drum is a suspect in the homicide of 51-year-old Jerry Ray, of Port Angeles. Ray died of gunshot wounds at his Heuhslein Road residence.

Agencies assisting in the manhunt were the Port Angeles Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Lower Elwha Police and the Sequim Police Department. A helicopter crew also assisted in the final stages of the search, flying above the woods where the suspect was hiding.
