The American Legion will be conducting a Flag Day Ceremony at the post at 107 E. Prairie St. at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14. There will be a flag disposal of unserviceable flags. All are welcome.

Please bring old and unserviceable flags for proper disposal. There also is a box on the west side of the post where you can leave old flags at any time.

Take time to look at your flag and see that is in good shape; if not, bring it to the ceremony and then buy a new one.

Sarge’s surge

Sarge’s Place in Forks is expanding. They are setting up a permanent supportive housing project called Camp Sol Duc. They need equipment to maintain the 1.3 acres of land — riding lawn mower, rakes, shovels, weed eater, gutters for the building, patio table and chairs, gas grill and flowers and shrubs.

If you can donate items or money, e-mail Cheri Tinker at ct.sargesplace@gmail.com. They are a 501(c)3, so your donation is tax deductible.

Looking for new members II

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) also is seeking new members. MOAA is a congressionally chartered veterans service organization which advocates for the welfare of the military community as a whole.

MOAA is the nation’s largest and most influential association of military officers, a powerful voice speaking for a strong national defense and representing the interests of military officers and their families at every stage of their careers.

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter was established in 1970. Anyone who has held commissioned officer status in any of the five uniformed armed services, the Public Health Service or NOAA is eligible for membership and surviving spouses are eligible for auxiliary membership. Chapter meetings are bimonthly in Port Angeles or Sequim.

There will be an August picnic in Pioneer Park with food, beverages and entertainment by the Old Sidekicks free to new members.
