Veterans Corner: Valentines for Veterans!

The Korean War Veterans will be distributing the valentines submitted to Drennan & Ford Funeral Home. They take them to the various military rest homes, hospitals, bases and USO prior to Feb. 14. About 2,500 valentines are generated by the elementary schools in Clallam County.

For those boys in their junior year of high school, the American Legion has a summer program for you.

Evergreen Boys State is June 19-25 at the Warm Beach Conference Center in Stanwood. Evergreen Boys State aims to simulate and emulate Washington state government through a fun and engaging program. The participant (Citizen) will have an opportunity to construct local, county and state governments.

Activities include running for office, court proceedings and creating and enforcing laws. Citizens will hone public speaking skills, experience how government works, get inspired by guest speakers and make new friends for life.

Please check out the website at www.evergreenboysstate.org. You will fill out an application online, then I will contact you as the representative of the Sequim American Legion Post 62. If you have questions, you can call me at 683-6419.

Thanks for towels

Thank you to Janis and Joyce for donating white towels to Sarge’s Place. We did not receive any white twin sheet sets and are needing them badly. Twin-size zip-close mattress covers also are needed.

Thanks also to those who donated to the new roof fund so far. The old flat roof is leaking and needs to be replaced before there is permanent damage to the facility.

You can go online to the website or mail to Sarge’s Place, 250 Ash Ave., Forks, WA 98331, to donate.

DAR sets meeting

The Michael Trebert Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its annual George Washington Tea Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

After tea, the DAR ladies will present the NJROTC Medal for Outstanding Female Cadet, the DAR Conservation Award and the DAR Community Service Award.

If any women believe they have a Revolutionary War ancestor and would like to find out more about joining the chapter, contact Joyce, Registrar, at n7jpw@juno.com or 417-3054.
