Volunteers help Old Glory fly again at VFW

Thanks to a community effort, the American flag is once again flying at the Sequim VFW Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St.

The mid-December wind storm last year broke steel cables on the downtown flag pole leaving it unusable despite VFW members’ attempts to repair the pole’s cable system.

Bill Strehle of the VFW enlisted Ben Smith of Maple View Dairy Farm to repair the cables with his hoist truck. As volunteers worked on repairs, City of Sequim staff helped with traffic control.

Strehle, former Post Commander Neil Gamroth and VFW Quartermaster Steve Henrikson worked on the cable mechanism.

Clallam Co-Op Farm & Garden staff provided tools and parts for repairs.

“Many thanks to all who helped to get Old Glory flying again in front of the VFW Post 4760 building,” VFW leaders said.
