Organizers of the annual Washington State Bicycle and Pedestrian Count are seeking volunteers to help a statewide data-collection effort that will inform decisions about funding for sidewalks, trails, and bike lanes in communities all across Washington state.

The count will take place over three days — Oct. 20-22 — at four sites in Sequim: three on the Olympic Discovery Trail and one at the traffic circle on Sequim-Dungeness Way.

Volunteers will spend two-hours each, either in the morning or the afternoon, at one of the sites over the three days; in all 24 shifts need to be filled.

Each volunteer selects a morning (7-9 a.m.) or afternoon (2-4 p.m.) shift and one of four sites, documenting bicyclists and pedestrians who pass by. After signing up, volunteers will get detailed instructions.

The count is a joint effort between the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Cascade Bicycle Club, with local coordination by the Olympic Peninsula Bicycle Alliance (OPBA).
