Warming center hosts talent showcase fundraiser

Proceeds support operations at church facility

Sequim Warming Center volunteers and Olympic Community Action Programs (OlyCAP) staff host a fundraiser to help those in-need stay warm this winter.

“Cool Talent for Warm Nights” features live music, storytellers, comedians and more from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per person, or $25 for a family with free dessert.

Some of the performers include Buck Ellard, Heidi Fivash, Farmstrong, Joel and Grace Yelland, Storytellers Club and Phil Morgan-Ellis, among others. The event also hosts a donation bin for coats, blankets and food.

The Warming Center in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., opens this winter from January-March when temperatures reach 36 degrees or below, organizers said.

Last year, the facility provided a meal, blankets and a warm space to 86 people for 1,002 combined nights.

Volunteers are needed for the talent showcase; to help or for more information, call Warming Center volunteer organizer Jean Pratschner at 505-264-0278.

Donation opportunities are available too, including a matching donation challenge up to $2,500, and a Buy-a-Nite donation plan of $200 a night. All fiscal donations can be made by calling Sam McCulloch at 360-775-8983.
