Webb leads Wolves to win

With two starters out with injuries, Sequim’s boys hoops squad rode their senior backcourt star and a big first half lead to a win Wednesday night.

Corbin Webb hit 10 of 17 shots from the field — several of them twisting and turning past Spartan defenders on his way to the hoop — for 25 points in Sequim’s 56-52 season-opening, non-league win against Bainbridge.

The Wolves jumped to an 18-7 lead after one quarter and held a double-digit lead through most of the third quarter.

But injuries to Gabe Carter (finger) and Tim Guan (leg cramps) forced Sequim coach Greg Glasser to go with a makeshift lineup that saw newcomers Andrew Shimer and Alex Barry play copious fourth-quarter minutes against the big, athletic Spartans from the Metro Conference.

“Offensively we had some guys step up and made some great plays,” Glasser said. “We like to play as a team. We really embodied that tonight.”

Jayson Brocklesby added 16 points for the Wolves.

Bainbridge’s Chris Bell led all scorers with 32 points.

Sequim’s girls fell to Forks on the road Wednesday night, 31-30. Details were not available.
