Prevention Works! A Community Coalition of Clallam County and many other organizations will lead an opportunity to learn about Community Cafés

Prevention Works! A Community Coalition of Clallam County and many other organizations will lead an opportunity to learn about Community Cafés from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Port Angeles High School Student Center, 304 Park Ave., Port Angeles.

This training develops parent leaders, builds parent voice and facilitates action to improve children’s lives. The process is designed, planned and implemented by parents working with community partners.

Participants will learn to design culturally relevant cafés that help children thrive as parents gain leadership skills while building and maintaining effective partnerships.

Robin Higa, nationally known speaker and trainer on Community Cafés, leads the workshop for parents and people who work with parents and families.

Register for the workshop by contacting Jennifer Charles at 417-2384 or jcharles@co.clallam.wa.us or Florence Bucierka at 417-2366. Cost is $10 at the door. Free host orientation kits will be available. Child care is available for those who reserve ahead of time.

After the orientation, from 1-2 p.m., Port Angeles School District parents will speak about funds for parent participation activities in Port Angeles. This part is open to all Port Angeles parents and is free.

Workshop co-sponsors are the Port Angeles School District, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Lutheran Community Services NW, Clallam AmeriCorps, Parenting Matters Foundation, First Step Family Support Center, Clallam County Health and Human Services, First Federal Bank and the Clallam County Community Network.
