YMCA offers programs during Sequim’s spring break

The YMCA of Sequim is offering several spring break programs and activities that give kids an opportunity to connect, continue learning, and gain important life skills, the organization announced last week.

Day camp

From 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, April 5-9, the YMCA of Sequim will offer Spring Break Day Camp at the Guy Cole Center, 202 N. Blake Ave. Camp is for youths of ages 6-11 and each day features a new theme for them to explore. Some camp themes include superheroes, animal kingdom, wizard’s world, space explorers and time travelers.

Swim camp

Swim Camp will also run April 5-9 from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at the YMCA of Sequim, 610 N. Fifth Ave. Swim Camp is a crash course in water safety and drowning prevention. Swimmers learn how to recover after submersion, how to breathe and how to treading water, as well as general water safety. This program is for beginner level swimmers.

Enrichment classes

If youngsters aren’t able to attend a camp, they can participate in YMCA youth enrichment classes that run throughout the month of April. Enrichment classes are stand-alone classes that cover learning topics such as science, arts, crafts, physical activities, cooking and more.

Group swim lessons

Individual and group swim lessons have started back up at the Y, and the next session of group swim lessons runs April 19-May 12. Registration for group swim lessons starts April 9. Youths and adults can also sign up for individual swim lessons, which are one-on-one lessons that cater to each swimmer’s ability.
