YMCA partners with Sequim schools to deliver meals

With Sequim schools on break in late December, the YMCA of Sequim is offering some helping wheels.

YMCA officials announced last week the organization’s staff and volunteers will deliver meals Mondays and Wednesdays to Sequim-area youths who are unable to pick up meals at central pick-up locations.

The school district offers or pick up at Greywolf Elementary School (171 Carlsborg Road), Sequim Middle School (301 W. Hendrickson Road) and the Central Kitchen on West Fir Street, but the bus routes won’t be running during the winter break.

Meal deliveries began Monday, Dec. 21, and will be made on modified bus routes on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 28 and Wednesday, Dec. 30.

“The YMCA recognizes that providing meals to families during this time when schools are closed is important,” YMCA of Sequim branch executive Gail Sumpter said.

“We are fortunate to be able to collaborate with the school district to assist where we are needed.”

Meal deliveries include seven days of meals. While pre-ordering meals is not required, it is encouraged and families in need of home delivery can make that request.

For more information about delivery routes, contact Sumpter at gail@olympicpeninsulaymca.org or 360-504-0538.

Regular bus routes will resume on Monday, Jan. 4. The meal pre-ordering form can be found on the district’s website at www.sequimschools.org/departments /nutrition_services.
