Betty Jeanne Myers

Betty Jeanne “BJ” Myers, born Elizabeth Jeanne Royer, passed away peacefully in her home in Sequim on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

She was born in Yakima, Wash., in 1923 to Christian and Bess Royer and grew up in Idaho and in Eastern Washington.

After graduating from Prosser High School, she attended college in Ellensburg, Wash., where she met and married Alexander Michael Myers, there for training during World War II.

After the war, Al as a police detective, and Betty as a homemaker, raised their family of four children in Long Beach, Calif. She taught in the public school system and with an early retirement, Al and BJ traveled throughout the Northwest and Mexico, eventually settling in Sequim.

They were married over fifty years before Al passed away in 1995.

Betty will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor and gift for storytelling as well as her various artistic talents, which included writing, painting, knitting and quilting.

She was a member of the Creative Arts Group from many years and was multi-faceted, admired, appreciated and loved by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Tom) Hermstad, of Seal Beach, Calif., and Majio, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Laura (Kerry) Orton, of Sequim, Wash.; as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and devoted niece, Betty Jo Marshall.

A special thank you goes to her good friends Linda and Penny, and to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, Olympic Medical Home Health and Home Instead Caregivers for their loving care and to her special friendship with Pam, the members of TOPS and many others during her extended illness.

Wherever she went, fun and laughter followed. In remembrance, please live life with a sense of adventure and laughter in your heart.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
