Donald Lee Clay of Sequim, WA passed away on January 14, 2016. His passing was in nearby Port Angeles with family at his side.

Although born in Toledo, Ohio on October 24, 1928, Don was extremely proud of his Kentucky heritage. Don traveled extensively during his youth due to his father’s work, but Kentucky was always home.

After high school, Don joined the US Army at age 17 (1946), serving in Korea until his discharge in 1948. He then joined his parents in Anchorage, Alaska, became a member of Local 1281, and began working as a carpenter.

After being in Anchorage a short time, he met his future wife, Lois (Kitty) Young. Kitty and Don were married on May 28, 1949. For the next few years, the two traveled around Alaska and California for work, having had four children by 1956. Don and family settled in the Anchorage area until both Kitty and Don retired in 1988 and moved to Sequim, WA in 1989.

Don was preceded in death by Kitty in 2008, grand- daughter Carey in 1992, and Sister Patricia Syester in 2015.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Carol Ann) Clay, Cynthia (Larry) Hinkle, Scott (Lynn) Clay, Mitch ell (Diane) Clay and companion Fran Aaron. In addition, he leaves nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

His family sends heartfelt thanks to all his caregivers in particular Tracy S. and Kathy L. All treated Don with compassion and respect.

There will be no services per his request. Don and Kitty will be interned together at Anchorage Memorial Cemetery this summer.
