James (Jim) Harlan
February 2, 1938 – October 23, 2016
Jim passed away October 23, 2016 in the Olympic Medical Center Hospital in Port Angeles, WA.
Jim was born to Emory and Dorothy (Ingersoll) Harlan in Loma Linda, California on February 2, 1938. His parents were living in Colton CA at the time, but moved to San Bernardino, California when
Jim was about two years old, where he grew up. Following high school he spent two years active duty and four years in the reserves of the US Navy. He was stationed on the aircraft carrier, USS Hornet. It was in Bremerton, Washington that he was released from active duty. That was his introduction to the great northwest,
and the Olympic Peninsula.
Following his discharge, Jim enrolled in the local
community college and earned an AA degree in business. Jim and Nancy (Shannon) married in 1960 in San Bernardino, CA. After working for a monument and casket rm for a few years, Jim became the owner of Westwood Casket Company for 30 years, until his
retirement.
While searching for the perfect place to retire, they
happened on to Sequim, Washington. Following Jim’s retirement, they moved to the golf community of SunLand in Sequim in December 1999. They indeed found the perfect place.
While living in SunLand, Jim served a three year term on the SunLand Owner’s Association (SLOA) Board of Directors and another three year term on the SunLand Division 11 Board of Directors. He was elected President to each board during his terms.
The friends and relationships he made in SunLand and SunLand Golf & Country Club were very special to him. He held them all in very high regard.
Jim was also a member of the Elks, Navy League of the United States, International Footprinters Association, and the USS Hornet Museum Association.
He enjoyed driving his 1956 Ford Pick-up, golf, travel, poker, dominoes, and entertaining his family and friends. Jim had one brother, Herb, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Nancy, nieces, Diane Stevens (Ron), Carol Wyckoff (Jim), Linda Krause (Rusty), Lisa Hall (Harry), and nephews Craig Harlan (Cheryl), and Gary Shannon, six grand nieces and three grand nephews.

Jim was buried November 2, 2016 in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
