Kathleen A. Grasser

1947 – 2025

Sequim resident Kathleen A. Grasser passed away at age 78 following her long-term struggle with cancer and related complications.

Kathleen was born in Seattle, WA May 27, 1947, at Columbus Hospital to Kenneth D. Kiesel and Maureen (Peters) Kiesel. She was born and raised in Seattle with three siblings and graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1964. She met David Grasser in 1966 while living near one another on Queen Anne Hill.

They began their family in Ballard, WA with first born Elmer Grasser in 1967 and the following year1968 Kristi Grasser was born. The final child Steven Grasser was born in 1971, and they continued living in the greater Seattle area.

The family moved to Poulsbo, WA in 1973 where the kids romped with carefree joy. In the summer of 1982, the household moved to Sequim, WA so the family could be closer to David’s work aboard the M.V. Coho. The Sequim area appealed to everyone, as we all enjoyed having property for a farm raising cows, pigs, chickens, and the pleasure of a day’s work. Kathleen was ever present in caring for loved ones, a true caretaker to everyone’s needs and wants. She was dedicated to serving her husband and children, and provided countless hugs, words of encouragement, pickups, deliveries, and the toting of her children was always done with utmost pride.

She was admired for her unwavering courage through 29 years of cancer treatment and care. We like to say mom received almost thirty years of treatment and did so with a please and thank you. Mom will be remembered most fondly for her cheerful outlook and belief that a positive attitude, kindness, happiness, and optimism are all choices, so choose wisely.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband David in 2003 and brother Michael in 2020. She is survived by her three children, son Elmer Grasser (Kristy), daughter Kristi Stevenson (Robert), son Steven Grasser (Jana), sister Eileen Shoener, and brother Steven Kiesel. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Kathleen requested no funeral or services but to cherish fond memories and value the days you have.
