Leland S. Porterfield of Port Angeles died in of acute myeloid leukemia on July 5, 2019, at age 89.

He was born July 12, 1929.

Wayne Gilbert Carson

Wayne Gilbert Carson of Port Angeles died of age-related causes on July 7, 2019, at the age of 87.

Carson was born Nov. 23, 1931.

Helen Leonie Smith

Helen Leonie Smith of Sequim died of age-related causes on July 6, 2019, in Bremerton, at the age of 87.

She was born Feb. 27, 1932.

Curtis Thornton

May 31, 1921 – June 30, 2019

Curtis was born near Steele, North Dakota, to Curtis Gerome and Eva Powell Thornton. He was one of seven children, six of whom prceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his much-loved only child, Craig Thornton.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucile Thornton; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis was educated in Bismarck, North Dakota, and also attended the University of California at Berkeley.

He and his three brothers all served their country in WWII. Curtis, in the Army, served in the artillery during the Battles of the Ardennes and the Rhineland.

After 3 1/3 years in the Army, he served as a civilian involved in personnel administration for approximately 30 years; with employment by NASA and the Army Corps of Engineers and Ordnance. Among his positions were the Executive Secretary for the Board Of Civil Service Examiner of Engineers and Scientists, Chief of Recruitment and Placement, and Assistant Personnel Officer.

Susan Jill Brody

1953-2019

Our sweet Susan passed from this realm Tuesday, July 9th. She is survived by her life partner, Bruce Cully.

Susan was raised in Detroit and came to Port Angeles in 1997. A graduate of Peninsula College, she retired as a substance abuse counselor.

In her professional and her private life, she gave selflessly to many in need. Susan was known for kindness, generosity, and loving heart.

A Celebration of Susan and pot-luck dinner will be held at The Dam Bar, 242701 U.S. HWY 101, Port Angeles, on July 25th, at 6:00 PM. Please come and celebrate Susan with us.
