Irene D. Burfitt
(1928–2025)
Irene Burfitt (Sims), 96, of Sequim, WA, passed away on April 30, 2025, just shy of her 97th birthday.
A Port Angeles native and longtime Sequim resident, Irene lived independently into her later years with the support of her devoted daughter and caregiver, Teresa Rickenbacher.
Irene led a full and active life that included being a school bus driver and local fashion model in her early years, and an avid gardener, quilter, and craftswoman. She loved to share her deep knowledge of plants and holistic living. Irene shared her time generously, volunteering with the Hospital Guild Thrift Store, Sequim Visitor Center, Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club and local garden club. She was a faithful attendee of her church, Olympic View Church of God. She and her late husband, Marshall Burfitt, owned and operated Burfitt Lumber for over 20 years.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; son, Keith; siblings, Herald and Gerry; and parents, Ed and Dolly Sims. Irene’s memory will live on with her sister, Frances; daughter, Teresa; son, Brett; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering will be held in July to honor her memory.
